The Skin
Injectable Fillers
Injectables include two basic classes: fillers, to restore lost volume, and botulinum toxin injections, to lessen the appearance of wrinkles caused by smiling, frowning, concentrating and looking surprised. Most fillers work by filling the wrinkle.
Botox
Botox injections are used to weaken the fine muscles around the eyes and forehead that are responsible for the frown lines and deep wrinkles that occur in these areas. Treatment consists of a number of tiny injections made through a very fine needle.
Collagen
Injected collagen can help fill out deep facial wrinkles, creases and furrows, skin depressions and some types of scars. It can also be used to give a fuller, more sensuous look to the lips. Effects can last for 3 months to a year.
Hylaform
Hylaform is a hyaluronic acid-based product used in the temporary treatment of facial wrinkles. Injected just below the surface of the skin, the products add volume to the skin, smoothing unwanted lines and wrinkles.
Restylane
Restylane is a cosmetic dermal filler made of non-animal based hyaluronic acid. It was FDA-approved in 2003 for the correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. Results can be seen immediately and last six months or longer.
Chemical Peels
This procedure chemically exfoliates the skin to treat various skin conditions, such as damaged/hyperpigmented skin, acne prone skin, and even reduces the appearance of wrinkles. The strength of the chemical peel is determined by the patient’s individual skin type and degree of damage to the skin.
Dermabrasion
This procedure diminishes the skin’s surface irregularities by abrading (“sanding”) the skin. It is often performed in conjunction with other techniques, such as chemical peels, to give the best improvement in the appearance of facial scars and wrinkles.
Laser Skin Resurfacing
This procedure, also known as laser peel, laser vaporization or lasabrasion, reduces facial scars, wrinkles and blemishes through the use of concentrated pulsating beams of light.
Laser Hair Removal
This procedure uses a laser — an intense, pulsating beam of light — to remove unwanted hair. During laser hair removal, a laser beam passes through the skin to an individual hair follicle. The intense heat of the laser damages the hair follicle, which inhibits future hair growth.
Tattoo Removal
This procedure uses a laser therapy to remove tattoos. Lasers work by directing energy toward ink in the skin with highly concentrated colored light beams. These laser beams break up ink particles into tiny fragments which are later cleared up by the body’s scavenging cells. The laser selectively targets the pigment of the tattoo without damaging the surrounding skin.
Non-Surgical Skin Tightening
This procedure rejuvenates the skin noninvasively. Skin rejuvenation can be achieved in a number of ways, ranging from laser, light and other energy-based treatments to chemical peels and other non-ablative methods. The result is a smoother, clearer and more youthful appearance to your skin.
Thermage
This procedure is a non-surgical technique that tightens aging skin through the use of radio frequency to heat the deep dermis layer and stimulate collagen formation. This treatment may also shrink oil glands in the skin, which may account for improvement in complexion and acne.
