Can Laser Resurfacing Make Under Eye Bags Worse?

Q: Can laser resurfacing make under eye bags worse? I heard that after you tighten the skin, the bags can be more prominent and more noticeable.

Typically, laser resurfacing treatments to the lower eyelids will decrease the visibility of fine lines and tighten loose skin. However, the puffy fat pads protruding and causing shadows aren’t significantly affected. Therefore, the puffiness is more noticeable because the wrinkles and loose skin are no longer hiding the bags. Generally, we treat the bags with a lower eyelid blepharoplasty.
