Your Skin Questions Answered
From simple skincare products to lunchtime peels, your skin can be smooth, supple and radiant!
We recently asked our faithful Facebook fans what their biggest skincare concerns were. Overwhelmingly, they’re looking for smooth skin with an even texture. Ladies, here are your answers:
Got Wrinkles?
Whether you’ve got those tell-tales lines that indicate the (inevitable) aging process, or not, there are key products and noninvasive procedures that can help to keep your skin looking healthy and vibrant.
“Cleansing, moisturizing and using a daily SPF should be a given,” says New You Executive Editor Eliza Drewa. “What you want to be sure to add to your night-time routine is a Vitamin A – Retinol product to rejuvenate your skin as you sleep. Not only will it soften some of those lines, but it will also reverse other signs of sun damage and smooth out the texture of your skin.”
Her favorite product: “Replenix Retinol Plus Treatment. You won’t believe what a difference it will make in the quality of your skin!”

And to get even better results, she says, you may want to consider seeing your local AACS-member dermatologist or surgeon for strategic injections to minimize facial muscle movement (Botox, Dysport) and keep those wrinkles at bay, or to fill in (Juvederm, Restylane, Radiesse, Artefill, Sculptra to name a few) the places that need a little more help for facial finesse.
If you have uneven skin texture or sun damage…
You may want to consider taking it to the next level and complimenting your skin care regimen with microdermabrasion or a chemical peel, say dermatologic experts.
“Microdermabrasion or a light chemical peel will freshen the skin by removing the very top layer of skin and reducing blotchiness,” says New You Advisor Ronald Moy, MD, a dermatologist in Los Angeles.
According to Heidi Waldorf, MD, a dermatologist in New York and member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, she uses standard TCA and Jessner peels, but prefers the Vitalize peel by Skin Medica, a modified Jessner peel with retinoic acid that’s “safe for all skin colors all year round.”
On average, peels cost around $100 while microdermabrasion comes in closer to $150. To get the best results, you may need to have the procedure more than once.
If you’re concerned about acne scars…
There really is a way to get rid of those scars that remind you of past acne afflictions! According to renowned cosmetic dermatologist Neil Sadick in New York City, “Treatments for acne scarring include chemical peels, first- and second-generation fractional lasers, and fillers such as Artefill, Radiesse, and Sculptra.”
